What is the BIG Problem?

Millennials are the ‘hottest’ thing in the job market and are touted as being the greatest assets to organisations. They are tech-savvy and they are a lot of them! However, they also come with attitudes and behaviours that organisations balk at and not much ‘real’ work experience.

Generation Xers, Baby Boomers and Traditionalists (XBT) are becoming an endangered species in the job market; and not all XBTs want to own their own business.

Organisations that want to discard XBTs based on the latest fad and hype around millennials will miss the boat.

What is the Opportunity?

Sixty is the new forty. Current Generation Xers, Baby Boomers and Traditionalists (XBT) are the fittest, healthiest and sharpest the world has ever seen. XBTs have a wealth of education, experience, emotional intelligence and organisational navigation skills that no other group possesses. They can hit the ground running which results in immediate value to the organisation with focused attention and steady hands. For example, when a company is in crisis or experiencing rapid growth, it needs a CEO who has experience in crisis management or scaling in a hurry, not someone who is smart but needs CEO experience.

In this dynamic market when everything is changing at the speed of light, experience in solving big problems quickly is a requirement to succeed. Organisations that want to have a competitive edge must embrace XBTs who have TAP Talent

Tried and Proven Talent (TAP) Registered Nurses (RN)

TAP-RN is a suite of recruitment services offered by Above or Beyond (AOB) (formerly the JobBank) to nurses and hospitals. This premium product matches TAP Registered Nurses from English speaking countries in the developing world, with hospitals in the USA and Canada that are experiencing an extended nurse staffing shortage.

The project will start with Jamaica as the source country and Florida as the hiring market. Over time other source countries will be added and additional hiring markets in the USA.

AOB has a long-standing reputation in the Caribbean and Jamaica in particular, for recruiting C- suite staff and other high-level personnel for both the private and the public sectors. Blue chip companies trust AOB to fill their top jobs with qualified and experienced candidates who have been thoroughly vetted. The company brings the same rigor and meticulous approach to recruiting medical professionals starting with nurses.

Two separate services are offered. Potential recruits can apply to be a part of the program and have their credentials checked and assessed. Psychometric assessments are also administered to determine the fit of the individual for the job, the transition, and the work environment. These fees will be paid by the potential recruit. Legal services will be offered to advise and secure the requisite legal status for working in the USA. The company will also work with recruits to help them prepare for the NCLEX*, obtain the required board of nursing license to practice in Florida and to relocate and assimilate successfully.

Hospitals in the North America seeking to engage international nurses in the short to medium term, contract with AOB to recruit qualified nurses on their behalf. AOB takes them through the process until a job offer is made and accepted. The cost of this service is covered by the hiring hospital or medical health institution.

*The NCLEX-RN, which stands for the National Council Licensure Examination [for] Registered Nurses (RN), is a computer adaptive test that is required for nursing graduates to successfully pass to be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the USA and Canada.

Clients (Business and Consumer)

The ideal candidate for AOB TAP-RN service is a nurse who is a graduate of an accredited nursing institution with at least 2 years of experience in a type A or B hospital and is desirous of working in the USA.

In the hiring market, the client is a hospital that recruits international nurses to fill their staffing shortfall for the next 1-5 years. These employers of choice hospitals have 500+ beds and are known for delivering first rate patient care, great pay and benefits and excellent work life balance.

Future Expansion

We will expand our offerings to attract and recruit doctors and psychologist for a wider USA market. In addition, TAP-RN will be expanded to include training nurses and doctors under contract with USA hospitals at Jamaican institutions to fill vacancies in the long term.

What is the BIG Problem?

Countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States are facing a severe shortage of nurses. In the United States more than 500,000 seasoned RNs are anticipated to retire by the end of 2022. The system simply cannot train new nurses fast enough. When new graduates enter the system, they lack the experience and expertise which require additional years of on-the-job training. Nurses are also leaving the profession due to burnout, and the moral injury of watching patients not being taken care of on a day-to-day basis, because of the chronic staff shortages. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics there is a need for 1.1 million new RNs for expansion and replacement of retirees.

Florida, which is widely regarded as a retirement state, is currently suffering from a significant nursing shortage. According to nurse job opening data from Indeed, as of April 30, 2022, there were over 20,000 vacant nurse openings across the state. The situation has exacerbated because of the growing population and overwhelming need for primary healthcare, especially since COVID 19. As the baby boomer generation continues to age and retire, skilled and experienced nurses will be required to care for them.

Between 2011 to 2029, about 3.8 million baby boomers will turn 65 each year, and many will reside and retire in Florida. Along with the population growing older, so are the nurses in the field. According to a survey from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, the average age of a registered nurse in the USA in 2020 was 51 years old. Many will retire in the next 5-10 years, causing an overwhelming need to find new and younger nurses to work in hospitals.

What is the Opportunity?

With the need for nurses in Florida now and well into the future, well trained, experienced, and motivated nurses who wish to take their careers in a new direction have an opportunity to do so. In addition to the new experiences to be gained, is the opportunity to create a better quality of life for self and family.

In the next 14 years, Florida's population will increase by over 4 million people. According to the Florida Hospital Association, the turnover rate for nurses in Florida has been 25% over the last year and over 30% for critical care nurses. The same report stated that Florida would need to add 4,000 more nurses each year for the next decade to reach the required demand by 2035.

The Sunshine State, as Florida is called, is a great place to live and work. It attracts hundreds of newcomers to its sandy shores every year – and it's not hard to see why. No state income tax, sunny weather, its diverse population, with a strong Caribbean community and exciting attractions make it a particularly interesting place to live.
